This Spy Monkey guide will focus on the email notification feature. Thank you for choosing Spy Monkey for your Uniview Security System needs. Please contact us if you have any questions or feedback. No part of this manual may be copied, reproduced, translated, or distributed in any form or by any means without the prior consent in writing from Spy Monkey. The information presented in this guide from the latest publicly available information gathered in September 2020. The configurations and interface may vary as the firmware is further developed but the operational concepts should remain similar and relevant.

Email Notifications

The Email Notifications feature allows the security system to send emails using a specific email address to a designated receiver. It is very useful for remote and timely notifications and is fairly straightforward to setup. In this guide, we will be configuring this feature by remotely accessing our Network Video Recorder on a computer browser. If you are would like to learn more about accessing your NVR remotely, please see this guide: Setting up using Remote Browser Interface

Navigation: Setup > Network > Email

Server Authentication: Enables or Disables the Server Authentication feature. This is for email accounts that require logins to access. The NVR will be using the specified account to send emails.

Username: Indicate the password of the email account. It is a good practice to fill in this field with the complete email login details including the domain. ex: john@domain.com.

Password: Indicate the password of the email account. For Gmail accounts with 2-factor authentication enabled, it may be necessary to generate an app password for the Email Notification feature of the NVR.

Generating a Gmail App Password: To generate an app password for the NVR to use, head to the security tab of your Google Account.

  1. On the "Signing in to Google" section, select App Passwords.
  2. Select Other from the Select App dropdown menu.
  3. Provide an App Name.
  4. Click Generate.
  5. Copy the generated password and use it on the Email Notifications.

SMTP Server: Determines the server the NVR will use. Varies per email service.

SMTP Port: Determines the port the NVR will use. Varies per email service.

Snapshot Interval: Determines the interval between snapshots for email notifications.

Select Recipient: Determines which recipient to edit.

Recipient: Determines the name of the recipient.

Recipient Address: Determines the email address of the recipient.

Arming Schedule: Determines the schedule when email notifications are enabled.

You should run an email test to check if everything is in working order. Don't forget to save your configuration.
