Counterfeit and Grey Market CCTV

There has been a huge increase in the amount of counterfeit and grey market cameras and recorders, particularly with products made by Dahua and Hikvision. Many counterfeit products look and feel exactly like the original, imitating the same casing, but with inferior electronics and performance once turned on and tested.

Grey market goods are those which are sold outside the manufacturer's approved distribution channels, with some products being used, recycled or not approved for Australian conditions. Purchasing such products can result in product warranties not being honoured by the manufacturer. Because of this we recommend that you only buy through authorised channels.

If you see a deal that is too good to be true, consider that it could be a grey import or counterfeit.

Official statement from Hikvision: "We hereby warn potential customers against purchasing these “black market” or “grey market” products from unauthorised channels.
Unauthorised channels are selling counterfeit, used, modified or damaged products. Many of the products sold by unauthorised channels have been altered in various ways, meaning that they are unsuitable for Australian conditions and may be non-compliant with Australian Standards. Also, because these products are no longer in original factory condition, Hikvision warranty is void, per company policy."

Official Statement from Dahua:

Dear Valued Dahua Australia Customers,

Dahua Technology Australia Pty Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Dahua), as the world’s leading supplier of video surveillance and solutions, values our Australia’s partners and are proud of the relationships we have developed. Unfortunately, not every distributor advertising Dahua products has been authorized by Dahua to advertise or sell those products in Australia.

It has come to Dahua’s attention that some unauthorized distributors sell altered, modified or damaged products. Many of the products sold by those unauthorized distributors have been modified in various ways, the firmware they used are different from the products sold by authorized distributors in Australia, meaning that they are unsuitable for Australian conditions and might be non-compliant with Australian Standards. Therefore, Dahua cannot guarantee that the Dahua products sold by such unauthorized distributors are authentic. Dahua will not provide any warranty or after-sale service to such modified products.

Dahua is investigating those cases and continually works to eliminate sales of Dahua products through unauthorized suppliers and their partners who engage in illegal practices from the marketplace. We trace all the serial numbers and track the product back to their source and reserve our right to cut the distributors out of our authorized system, and pursue further legal actions against unauthorized distributors who engage in illegal practices from the marketplace. In order to maintain the market order and safeguard customers’ legal rights and interests, Dahua kindly reminds customers to purchase Dahua’s products through Dahua’s authorized distributors.
